the
2026 Legislative Session
The 2026 legislative session was defined by difficult budget decisions and a continued focus on maintaining Colorado's long-term fiscal stability. As a member of the Joint Budget Committee, I worked to balance the state's constitutional and statutory obligations while prioritizing core services, protecting taxpayers, and ensuring that limited resources were directed toward Colorado's most pressing needs.
During the interim, I will serve on the Medicaid Commission established by SB26-187. The Commission is tasked with reviewing the operation and sustainability of Colorado's Medicaid program, developing a shared understanding of upcoming federal policy changes, identifying impacts to the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing, and evaluating resources needed to support Coloradans affected by federal changes scheduled to take effect in 2026, 2027, and 2028. This work will provide legislators with a better understanding of the challenges facing Medicaid and help ensure that Colorado is prepared to respond thoughtfully to both state and federal policy changes in the years ahead.
